Margaret Mater

BOARDMAN — Margaret “Pegg” Mater of Boardman passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Hampton Woods, with her family at her side.

She was born Aug. 21, 1950, in Youngstown, the daughter of Gordon E. “Pat” and Donna L. Bently Patterson.

Pegg graduated from Boardman High School, Class of 1968, and then attended Hannon E. Mullins School of Nursing in Salem.

Pegg moved to Tampa, Florida, in 1978, where she met her husband, Alan D. “Matt” Mater. They were married Oct. 31, 1981.

Pegg and Matt lived all over the world due to her husband’s military career. They lived in Germany; Saudi Arabia; Hawaii, California; Seattle, Washington; and finally Houston, Texas.

She was very well-traveled and enjoyed sailing, boating and cruising. She also enjoyed reading books and was extremely lucky at the casinos.

After Matt passed away in 2009, she retired from nursing and moved back home to Youngstown to be closer to her family.

Left to cherish Pegg’s many memories are her brothers, Richard G. (Carol) Patterson of Austintown and Jerre M. (Patricia) Patterson of Canfield, and sister, Joanne Wilhelm of Canfield; her stepchildren, Lawrence Mater and Christine Mater; stepgrandchildren, Daxton and Asya Jade Mater; and her nieces and nephews, Dr. Tammy Patterson of Georgia, Scott R. Patterson of Ohio, Dr. Mary Colleen Patterson (John Magliocca) of New Hampshire, Matthew M. Wilhelm of California, Christopher L. Wilhelm of Canfield and Abby R. Patterson of Austintown.
