Thomas L. Dailey 1944-2026
AUSTINTOWN — Thomas L. Dailey, 81, passed from this life to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026, at Hospice House following an extended illness.
Born April 29, 1944, in Youngstown, he was the son of Joseph E. Dailey and Florence Lambing Dailey.
Tom leaves behind his devoted wife of 53 years, H. Marlene Maurer Dailey.
A lifelong member of St. Christine Parish, Tom was among the church’s original altar boys and later served for many years as a Eucharistic minister.
Tom was an avid golfer, having discovered his love for the game as a young caddie at Tippecanoe Country Club. He also volunteered with the Youngstown Radio Reading Service (YRRS), a nonprofit dedicated to making information accessible to individuals with visual, physical or mental impairments throughout Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. He especially enjoyed recording news articles and community updates from The Vindicator.
A 1962 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School, Tom went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business (1987) and a bachelor’s degree in education (1992), both from YSU.
He enjoyed a successful career in public service, working in the City of Youngstown Finance Department, and later as an educator in various Youngstown City Schools, as well as the Canfield School System.
Although he took pride in his work for the City of Youngstown, Tom’s greatest joy — and true calling — was teaching. He served students at every grade level during his years in education, but he especially cherished his time with younger children. His love for them remained evident even in his final days.
In addition to his wife, Tom leaves behind his siblings, Jack (Katie) Dailey of New Baltimore, Michigan, Mary Rita (Ken) Bodnar of Austintown and Michael (Kristin) Dailey of The Villages, Florida. He is also survived by his sister‑in‑law, Shirley (Warren) Shields of McDonald; many cousins; and loving nieces and nephews across the country.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Shepherd of the Valley (Boardman) and Hospice House for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Youngstown Radio Reading Service (YRRS) at www.goodwillyoungstown.org/radio-reading, or to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Youngstown, OH 44514.
Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at Fox Funeral Home in Boardman.
A funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at St. Mary Magdalene Parish-St. Christine Church.
Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Family and friends of Thomas may visit www.foxfuneralhome.org to view this obituary and to give condolences to the Dailey family.
