Daniel McKelvey Miller 1940-2025

SALEM — With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Daniel McKelvey Miller on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025, at the age of 85.

Daniel was born Thursday, Dec. 12, 1940, raised in Salem, and lived a life defined by compassion, strength and deep devotion to his family. Dan embodied kindness, generosity and unwavering loyalty to those he loved.

He was the son of the late Dorothy May Dougher Miller and Daniel Mark Miller.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Terrance Miller and Mark Willard Miller, and one sister, Marilyn Miller Herron.

Dan is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 64 years, Dotti Scullion Miller, whom he married May 19, 1961, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Salem. He was the cherished father of David Mark Miller (Jessie) of Salem, Terri Marie Miller Riley (Douglas Riley), also of Salem, and Dorothy Miller (Steve Neri) of Attleboro, Massachusetts. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Douglas Riley, Bridgett Riley, Camryn Riley, and Ryan and Nathan Miller‑Neri; and two great‑granddaughters, Kaia and Sophia; along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him deeply.

Dan graduated from Salem Senior High School in 1959 and attended Kent State University, where he excelled in math. Professionally, he spent 53 dedicated years with Ohio Eye Alliance, where he was known for his exceptional work ethic, kindness, patience, compassion and steadfast commitment to others.

At home, he was an avid gardener who found great joy in tending his extensive garden. He enjoyed watching basketball, football and golf, as well as playing ping pong and bird watching. In his younger days, he enjoyed boating. Another favorite pastime for Dan was traveling.

Dan touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him. His selflessness, warmth, generous spirit and wonderful stories will be remembered always. His presence will be profoundly missed, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and compassion that lives on in all who know him.
