Gilbert S. Jackson 1951-2025

YOUNGSTOWN — Gilbert Scott Jackson, 74, surrounded by his loving family, received his wings Friday, Nov. 7, 2025.

Gilbert was born April 3, 1951, in Youngstown, a son of James E. and Clara Perrow Jackson.

He was a 1970 graduate of North High School. Gilbert attended and graduated from Lear Siegler Institute in Silver Spring, Maryland, later attending and graduating from Youngstown State University with a degree in applied science.

Gilbert was employed at Northside Medical Center for over 40 years as a blood bank technician, retiring in 2013.

Gilbert married the love of his life, Patsy A. Donald, on July 11, 1981; to this union, two sons, Marcus S. Jackson and Jonathan J. Jackson, were born.

Gilbert, also known as Gil, Mr. G. and Mr. Gilbert, enjoyed spending time with his family and golfing. Mr. G. was also known for hitting golf balls in the yard by his surrounding neighbors. He enjoyed watching sports and cheering for whichever team was winning. Tinkering with different projects around the house had become one of his part-time hobbies after retiring.

Gilbert was of the Baptist faith, although he was more spiritually led. Gil always wanted to do the right thing. Gilbert was kind, nice, easygoing and cool, and had a sarcastic sense of humor. He was the strength of his family.

Besides his immediate family, he leaves to mourn and cherish his life, his brother, Darryl Jackson of New Howland, Pa.; his sister, Michelle (Charles) McPhatter of Woodbridge, Virginia; the joys of his life, his two grandchildren, Josiah and Janessa Jackson of Rockville, Maryland; a special cousin, Tracy Jackson; brother-in-law, Charles (Cleone) Donald, and sister-in- law, Betty (Gerald) McPhatter; special friends, Jesse Dukes, Larry Ready, George Austin Sr. and Robert Sims; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Philip Jackson; sister-in-law, Margaret “Peggy” Jackson; mother-in-law, Catherine Leftwich; father-in-law, Jerome Donald; and sister-in- law, Mildred Donald.

Per Gilbert’s request, there will be no funeral services. The family will honor and celebrate his life at a later date.

Arrangements were by L.E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home, Youngstown.
