Charles M. McAtee 1943-2025

AUSTINTOWN — In loving memory of Charles Michael McAtee, 81, who passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2025, at Windsor House of Canfield.

“Mike,” as he was known to family and friends, was a jokester who loved to laugh out loud and make others happy. He was also an avid sports fan, passing his love of sports to his children and grandchildren. His favorite teams were the Cavaliers, the Guardians, the Buckeyes and any team one of his grandchildren played for!

He was born Dec. 1, 1943, in Clarksburg, W.Va., a son of the late Charles William McAtee and Mary Ellen Feeney Lewis. He lived and went to school throughout the greater Mahoning Valley.

In his time on earth, Mike had many careers. In his early and middle years, he was the owner of multiple pool halls around the Youngstown area (Market Street Billiards, Spot Shots and Swifty’s Billiards) and worked for Youngstown Steel Door until its closure. After that, he started his second full career as an OSHA Safety and Health Compliance Inspector across the state of Ohio. Yet, his greatest role was that of grandfather, father and husband to his late wife, Mary Eileen, who preceded him in death on May 26, 2024.

Mike is survived by his children, Tracey (Doug) Stein of Canfield, Sharon (Joseph) Nivert of Cuyahoga Falls, Timothy (Megan) McAtee of Vienna, Virginia, and Brenda (Nathan) Schroeder of Sunbury; grandchildren, Brianna Zohnd, Tyler (Kenedi), Hannah and Ally Stein, William and Madeline Nivert, Kelsey, Jason and Grady McAtee, and Ellie, Grace, Edie and Cole Schroeder; great-grandchildren, Kaegan, Aaron and baby Stein (arriving soon); and sisters, Suzanne Melia, Robin (Kenneth) Davis and Rebecca (Hurley) Bowers.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Patricia Wagner and Jean Oaks; and his brother, Edward McAtee (Nancy).

Family and friends may pay their respects 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, 4303 Mahoning Ave.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025, at St. Christine Church, 3165 S. Schenley Ave.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Mahoning District Council, svdpmahoning.org/.
