Sam Vario 1927-2025

He was born June 11, 1927, in Youngstown, a son of Anthony and Jenny Vario.

He was a 1946 graduate of Chaney High School, where he excelled in football and baseball.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He was part of the Greatest Generation.

He retired from US Steel, where he worked for 35 years.

Sam was a sports fan and enjoyed watching football and the Cleveland (Indians) Guardians. He also enjoyed playing golf with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Josephine Perruzzi Vario, and grandson, Marc Vario.

He is survived by his children, Sandra (Mike Slimmer) of Fort Worth, Texas, Tony (Mary Jane) Vario of Austintown, Samuel (Kathy) Vario of Houston, Texas, and Vince (Mary) Vario of The Woodlands, Texas. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In keeping with Sam’s wishes, a prayer service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025, at Tod Homestead Cemetery.
