Karen Schiel
HUBBARD — Karen Schiel, 83, passed away peacefully, Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer, at Heritage Manor in Youngstown.
She was born Aug. 26, 1942, to Charles Kanyuck and Olive Gorsuch, both of whom preceded her in death. Karen was one of three children, along with her brothers Wayne and David.
A dedicated nurse, Karen spent 40 years caring for patients at Deaconess Hospital in Cleveland. Her compassion, steady presence and quiet strength touched the lives of many during her long and faithful service in health care.
Karen was a devout Baptist and a longtime attendee of Hubbard First Baptist Church, where she found strength and community in her faith.
She had a deep love for children and dogs, both of which brought her great joy throughout her life. Over the years, she cared for many beloved pets and was always happiest when surrounded by little ones — whether family, neighbors or children in her care. She was also a devoted fan of classic Westerns and especially cherished the films of John Wayne.
Karen was preceded in death by her daughter, Christeen Manesta. She will also be mourned by other family members and loved ones whose lives she touched with her gentle spirit and enduring kindness.
In accordance with her wishes and her lifelong commitment to helping others, Karen donated her body to The Ohio State University College of Medicine for the advancement of medical education and research.
A memorial service will be held in her honor by SouthernCare Hospice. For details, please call 330-797-8940.
Karen will be remembered for her kindness, her patience and the gentle way she lived her life — quietly serving others with love and dignity.
