Alfred P. Gugliotti 1933-2025

POLAND — Alfred P. Gugliotti, 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 18, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 5, 1933, in Struthers, a son of the late Gaetano and Sara Pagano Gugliotti.
He was a 1951 graduate of Struthers High School before he began working for Youngstown Sheet & Tube until he was drafted into the Army. While there, he served in Toul, France, in the engineering division, and he got to travel to his father’s village in Sicily and met many family members. Upon his return, he worked his way up to manager of the electric division for the mill until his retirement in 1981 after 30 years of service. Not content to just sit around, he took a job at the former RMI Titanium and worked an additional 15 years until he retired in 1997.
He met his wife Sally on a blind date, and they married in 1963. They had many happy years together until she passed in 2009.
Alfred was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, where he once served as Grand Knight and also was honored as a 4th Degree Knight. His strong faith was central to his life, and he was an active member of Holy Family Church, where he served faithfully as an usher.
Outside of his commitments, he enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies. He was an avid gardener, tending to his vegetable garden and sharing the harvest with neighbors and friends. Fishing trips to Canada, especially to Val-d’Or with his buddies, brought him great memories and laughter. He also loved golfing and bowling, both on his own and with his wife, and when he was a bit older, he enjoyed playing bocce, as all old Italian men are supposed to, with the Arco league in Lowellville. His wife loved to gamble, so they went on several trips with close friends to casinos.
Travel was a special part of his life as well, whether it was with his time in Europe or his golf trips to Florida. He and Sally would drive to Austin, Texas, every spring to spend time with their daughter and granddaughter, whom he lovingly called “Cutie Pie II.”
Left behind to cherish his memory are his children, Paul Gugliotti of Poland and Elizabeth Gugliotti (Dave) of Austin, Texas; his grandchildren, Sarah Clements and Anthony, Allyson and Jeremy Gugliotti; his brothers, James Gugliotti and Guy (MaryEllen) Gugliotti; his sister, Carmel D’Orazio; and his beloved canine companion, Scooby.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sally V. Gugliotti, and his brothers, Joseph and John Gugliotti.
Friends will be received 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2025, at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland. A prayer service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025, at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Parish.
Alfred will be laid to rest with his wife in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Coitsville, where military honors will be rendered for his service to our country.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Patriot Hospice for their compassionate care of Alfred in his time of need, and request that material contributions may be made to them at 986 Tibbetts Wick Road, Girard, OH 44420 in his memory.
