Richard A. Gary 1951-2025

CANFIELD — Richard A. Gary, 74, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

He was born June 6, 1951, in Youngstown, the son of Andrew and Mildred Miller Gary.

Richard enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in education, serving the London School District near Columbus. After a remarkable 25 years, he retired in 2003 as superintendent. His contributions extended beyond academics; he was an avid coach and organizer of various student activities in

London, fostering a spirit of enthusiasm and engagement among his students. Richard’s commitment to service also transcended the classroom, as he volunteered his time as a fireman for the city, embodying a true sense of duty to those around him.

He was a proud alumnus of Canfield High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Youngstown State University, furthering his education with a master’s degree.

Richard was a longtime parishioner of St. Michael Church, a place that held deep personal significance as his parents were charter members.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Richard had a passion for NASCAR and found joy in tending to his beloved plants. He was well known for having the most beautiful plants and flowers.

Richard leaves behind his family of neighbors and dear friends, Nikki and Rob Accordino of Canfield, and their children, Sam, Ellie and Maddie, whom he loved like they were his own.

He also gave the gift of life as an organ donor.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.

Mass will follow at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael Catholic Church.
