Lois Mae Cannon 1935-2025
STRUTHERS — Lois Mae Cannon, 90, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Hospice of the Valley Hospice House.
Born June 14, 1935, in Pittsburgh, Pa., Lois was the daughter of the late Louis and Leona Brickner Bott. She was raised in Pittsburgh and made Struthers her home in 1978.
On Feb. 18, 1978, she married the love of her life, Richard Duane Cannon. Together, they built a blended and loving family of nine children, 19 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Lois and Richard also worked side by side in their business, Cannon Painting and Janitor and Building Maintenance.
Lois embraced life with a spirit of adventure and joy. She and Richard loved traveling the country by RV, spending winters in the Florida Keys, and enjoying the outdoors through boating, fishing, lobstering and crabbing.
She had a wide range of hobbies and was especially known for her love of cooking, crafting, painting her decorative eggs, enjoying music and polka dancing.
Above all, Lois was devoted to her family. She was an adoring wife, a generous and loving mother and grandmother, and someone whose presence brought warmth and joy to every gathering.
Left to carry on her legacy are her daughters, Marilyn J. (Ed) Planinsek of Bridgeville, Pa., Susan C. (Paul) Simkins of Austintown and Lori M. Macklen of Greenville, South Carolina; her sons, Kevin J. (Debra) Macklen of The Villages, Florida, Wayne D. (Rea) Macklen of Bethel Park, Pa., and Richard L. (Meribeth Pantall) Macklen of Struthers; her stepdaughter, Jill E. Dudik of Canfield; and her daughter-in-law, Denise Macklen of Bethel Park, Pa. She also is survived by her sister-in-law, Joan Bott of Pleasant Hills, Pa.; 19 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, Richard Duane Cannon; her son, Michael Leo Macklen III; her stepdaughter, Tracie Hensley; her stepson-in-law, Raymond Dudik; two brothers, Louis and Leon Bott; and five grandchildren.
Family and friends may call 3 to 4:45 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St., Struthers. A funeral service will follow at 5 p.m., with Deacon Paul Lisko officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Lois’ name to Hospice of the Valley Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, OH 44514 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
