Lillian Huzjak 1929-2025
YOUNGSTOWN — Lillian “Lil” J. Huzjak, 95, lifelong resident of the West Side, was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, June 29, 2025, and is now with our Lord.
Lillian was born July 24, 1929, in Youngstown, to the late John and Sophia Sofranko Novotnik. She graduated from eighth grade at Holy Name School and Chaney High School, Class of 1947.
Lil played violin and performed with the Youngstown Symphony. She worked in the office for the former G. M. McKelvey, was a member of the Slovak Gymnastic Lodge and was a poll worker for over 35 years.
Lil was a homemaker, raised two children and was known for her famous stuffed cabbage and kolachi. She loved needlepoint, word search, puzzles, bowling and listening to Sunday morning polkas. She was a kind loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who adored her family, especially her four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She loved life, especially her monthly luncheon with her grade school friends.
Her husband Floyd, to whom she was married for 46 years, departed this life on Oct. 29, 1997.
She leaves a son, Robert, and wife, Betty Huzjak of Larkspur, Colorado; grandchildren, Amy Huzjak of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Lindsey Thomson and husband, Nate of Blaine, Minnesota, Corrie and Jessie Johnson, and wife, Maimuna of Youngstown; son-in-law, Thomas Johnson of Youngstown; and great-grandchildren, Wiley, Caleb, Ian and Eliza. She leaves a brother-in-law, Richard Bueno of Austintown; Sharon Agler of Austintown, who Lil adored immensely; and Kathy Martynyszyn, who was her caregiver, companion and friend.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; her beloved daughter, Shelley Thompson; and sister, Mildred “Millie” Bueno.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2025, at St. Christine Church. Calling hours will begin at 10 a.m. at the church.
She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Calvary Cemetery.
Vaschak-Kirila handled all of the arrangements for the family.
