John. W. Fithian 1926-2025

BOARDMAN — John “Jack” Walizer Fithian, 98, of Boardman, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 4, 2025, at Stone Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care.
Jack was born Dec. 26, 1926, in Youngstown, the son of the late John Adelbert and Winifred Walizer Fithian.
He was a proud 1945 graduate of Boardman High School and later earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Mount Union in 1951. Jack served his country honorably in World War II as a sergeant in the United States Army.
On June 30, 1951, Jack married the love of his life, Dorothy Jane (Rowbotham). They were blessed with 43 wonderful years of marriage until her passing on Aug. 1, 1994.
A hardworking and passionate man, Jack was the owner of John Fithian Contracting and remained actively involved in the business well into his later years.
He was a dedicated life member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was also involved in the Four Square Club, Masonic Lodge Western Star, The Youngstown Scottish Rite and the Youngstown Model Railroad Association.
Jack had a lifelong love of trains and enjoyed woodworking. He was also a regular at the local YMCA, staying active and engaged with his community. Above all, he cherished his role as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Jack is survived by his children, John (Susan) Fithian of Berlin Center, D. Larry (Patte) Fithian of Poland, Jeff (Edie) Fithian of North Jackson, Jim (Susan) Fithian of Boardman and S. Adele (Mark) Reiman of Canton; grandchildren, Staci (Chris) Wills, Autumn McKibben, Susan J. Fithian, Kyle Fithian, Lauren (Michael) Fithian-Hunnewell, Joshua Fithian, Jason (Kate) Fithian, John Fithian, Matt Schnur, Tyler (Jennifer) Reiman and Trent Reiman; great-grandchildren, Madeleine Wills, Murphy Wills, Connor Wills, Blythe Fithian, Isabelle Hunnewell, Riley Rose Hunnewell and Devon Reiman; stepgreat-grandchildren Zane and Avery; his sisters, Nancy Mirto of Canfield and Ann Leppo of Dayton.
In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Jack was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Danny Mirto and Paul Leppo.
Calling hours will be held 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, July 9, 2025, followed by a funeral service at noon and military honors immediately after at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512. Jack will be laid to rest beside his wife in Lake Park Cemetery.
