Isabel Giampietro Mancini 1935-2025

YOUNGSTOWN — Isabel Giampietro Mancini passed away with her family at her side on Saturday, July 5, 2025.

She was born June 26, 1935, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Marie Dominique Lilli Giampietro and Giuseppe Giampietro.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Salvadore D. Mancini; brother, Joseph Giampietro; sister, Marie “Babe” Menelle; and many nieces and nephews that she dearly loved.

‍Isabel, affectionately known as Honey, lived a life of service and as a prominent figure in her community. In addition to working as a hairdresser and her hobby as a talented seamstress, she spent decades volunteering at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Brier Hill, where she ran and organized the Brier Hill Pizza and Easter Bread baking and sales. Rare was a Friday when Isabel was not spearheading the weekly Brier Hill Pizza operation. During each spring, she spent countless hours (from dawn until dark) over a two-week period baking Easter Bread at St. Anthony. Not only did these operations require the necessary baking skills, but also the accounting background to ensure all ingredients and supplies were purchased and available for the weekly pizza / yearly Easter bread sales. Additionally, Isabel volunteered annually for St. Anthony Feast days and spaghetti dinner.

Isabel was skilled at needlepointing, crochet, knitting and other crafts. She passed down each of these skills to her daughters, granddaughter and daughter-in-law. Isabel utilized these skills to crochet prayer shawls, which then were delivered to those undergoing medical treatment.

Being a lifelong Indians fan, one of her biggest thrills was attending a World Series game in 1995 in Cleveland. Another huge passion for Isabel was going to Disney World with her children and grandchildren.

Isabel is survived by three children, MaryJo (Joe) Lenefonte, Carol Palermo and Jimmy (Judy) Palermo; two stepsons, David (Denise) Mancini and Duane (Palma) Mancini; four grandchildren, Joanna (Ivan) Garcia, and Carmen, Anthony and Mario Palermo; great-grandchildren, Luciano and Alessandra and three stepgrandchildren, David, Duane (Emily) and Gina; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Julia and Penelope.

Calling hours are from 9 to 10:30 a.m. with a funeral mass immediately following on Wednesday, July 9, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 1125 Turin Ave., Youngstown.

In lieu of flowers, the intent of the family is that any donations be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church in Isabel’s honor.
