Socci P. DePofi 1943-2025
NAPLES, Fla. — Socci “Saul” P. DePofi, 81, of Naples, Florida, and Sharpsville, Pa., passed away Saturday, May 31, 2025, in Naples.
Mr. DePofi was born June 29, 1943, in Sharon, Pa., son of Louis Thomas and Jennie Marie Petricini DePofi. He was a 1961 graduate of Sharpsville High School and honorably served in the U.S. Army Reserve.
In addition to being employed by GATX, Saul owned and operated several successful businesses throughout Mercer County for more than 50 years.
Saul was a member of the Church of Notre Dame in Hermitage, Pa., and St. Ann Catholic Church in Naples.
He also was a member of the Sharpsville American Legion and the Farrell Italian Home.
An avid and accomplished long-distance runner, Saul was a two-time Boston Marathon finisher. In 1985, while running for the Allegheny Nike Master’s Team, he finished seventh overall and set a master’s record time of 2 hours 35 minutes at the Charlotte Observer Marathon in North Carolina.
Saul married his high school sweetheart, Bonita “Bonni” DeJulia DePofi. They were married July 17, 1965, and would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary next month.
Saul is survived by his wife, Bonni; daughter, Kristen DePofi Carey (Robb) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a son, Matthew DePofi (Jennifer Solondz) of Boulder, Colorado; two sisters, Delores Murdock of South Boston, Virginia, and Joanne Lipak (Terry), of Sharpsville; a sister-in-law, Elvera DeMatteis of Hermitage; and several nieces and nephews, including Michael Stanton and Meg Stanton Sweet.
In addition to his parents, Saul was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Leonard Murdock, and dear, lifelong friends, Ed and Linda Stanton, and Carmen Argenziano.
Saul always enjoyed spending time with Joey Fazzone and being a part of his life, and in the last four years, no one brought a smile to his face more than Sammy Sweet.
Calling hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2025, at J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1 p.m. Friday at the Church of Notre Dame, 2325 Highland Road, Hermitage, with the Rev. John Miller as celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made toward a memorial bench in Buhl Park in memory of Saul, … the DePofi family. Donations will be accepted by the funeral home.
