Sally Ann Neiheisel 1935-2025

COLUMBIANA — Sally Ann Neiheisel, 90, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Covington Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, East Palestine.

She was born March 16, 1935, in Leetonia, a daughter of the late Victor and Marie McNamara Peppel.

Sally was a member of St. Jude Roman Catholic Church in Columbiana and had worked as a toll collector for the Ohio Turnpike Commission, as well as the owner and operator of Neiheisel Sand & Gravel in Leetonia with her husband, Thomas. She was a hardworking and feisty woman who enjoyed shopping and left a lasting legacy, demonstrated by the family she leaves behind. Sally was very proud of having taken top honors for her German chocolate cake by winning “Best of Show” at the Canfield Fair. It seemed only fitting that Sally passed away on National German Chocolate Cake Day.

Her husband, Thomas L. Neiheisel Sr., whom she married Aug. 9, 1951, preceded her in death, June 1, 2017.

Sally is survived by her three daughters, Pamela (Joseph) Yuhanick of Columbiana, Cheryl Brothers of Columbiana and Connie Bowen of Raleigh, North Carolina; three sons, Edward (JoAnn) Neiheisel of Canfield, Steve (Autumn) Neiheisel of Columbiana and Thomas (Kerri) Neiheisel Jr. of Hill City, South Dakota; a daughter-in-law, Jane Neiheisel of Leetonia; her half sister, Marianne Will of Kentucky; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret “Peggy” Yuhanick; a son, Peter Neiheisel; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Neiheisel; sister, Karen Peppel; and a brother, Charles Peppel.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Sally will be laid to rest with her husband in Grandview Cemetery, Salem.

The family would like to thank the staff at both Covington and Southern Care Hospice for the kind and compassionate care shown to Sally.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
