Russell E. Lamping Jr. 1954-2025
POLAND — Russell E. Lamping Jr., 70, passed away Friday, June 13, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
He was born Dec. 6, 1954, in Cincinnati, the son of Russell E. Sr. and Grace Vorholt Lamping.
Russ graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1973, where he played football and tennis. After graduation, he continued his education and earned a degree from Youngstown State University in criminal justice.
Russ worked for 30 years at the Ohio Adult Parole Authority and for 10 years at Northeast Ohio Community Alternative Program. Throughout his career, he was involved with several programs and organizations that were instrumental to the safety of the community.
Russ married his high school sweetheart, Mary Mitchell, on Aug. 13, 1976, and they had three children. His passions included golf, taking care of his lawn, family vacations to the beach, coaching Little League and playing softball. His favorite pastime, though, was raising his children and watching his grandkids grow. Russ will now have a front row seat for every event his grandkids are involved in, cheering them on to victory!
Russ leaves behind a legacy of love through his wife, Mary; their children, Daniel (Melodie) Lamping of Struthers, Jennifer (David) Minehart of Poland, Margaret “Maggie” (Louis) Garland of New Middletown; and seven precious grandchildren, Olivia, Bryan, Danny Jr., Grace, Grant, Gaetana and Serafina. He will be deeply missed by his siblings, Donald (Wandie) Lamping of Boardman, Barb (Bob) Bletso of Boardman, Diane (Bob) Diamond of Boardman, Charles Lamping of Poland, Tim (Tammy) Lamping of Boardman and Mike (Heidi) Lamping of St. Louis, Missouri; his aunt, Trudy Stross of Cincinnati; numerous in-laws; friends; 45 nieces and nephews; and 56 great-nieces and great-nephews. His memory will forever be in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Russ was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Amelia Ricottilli-Lamping.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home- Poland Chapel, 2726 Center Road, Youngstown, OH 44514.
A prayer service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2025, at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Church.
