Robert S. Bernard 1932-2025

YOUNGSTOWN — Robert Steven Bernard, 92, passed away peacefully Monday, June 23, 2025, at Hospice House, with his wife and children by his side.
Robert, known lovingly as “Bob,” was born Oct. 25, 1932, in Smoky Hollow, a son of the late Steven and Mildred Luca Bernard.
He was a 1951 graduate from Ursuline High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. Prior to his retirement, he worked at Compco Metal Products for 42 years.
Bob’s favorite things to do were tending to his garden, enjoying his wife’s home-cooked meals, reading, attending Mass on Sunday, completing many woodworking projects with his son and playing with his daughter’s dog, “Beau.”
Bob is survived by his dear wife, Eleanor Hassey Bernard, with whom he would have celebrated 70 years of marriage this September; his son, Gary Bernard of Cleveland; daughter, Lori (Dr. Frank) DeNiro of Canfield; and sister, Theresa Ciavarella of Boardman; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph and John Bernard.
Family and friends may pay their respects 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2025, at Christ our Savior Parish-St. Nicholas Church, 764 Fifth St., Struthers, OH 44471. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with Fr. Rogers officiating.
The family would like to thank the staff of Mercy Health Compassus Hospice; Dr. Casacchia; Dennis, his personal caregiver; Debbie, his nurse; and the entire compassionate and caring staff.
