Robert Hinchcliffe 1943-2025

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Robert Hinchcliffe, 82, died peacefully on Friday, June 13, 2025, in the care of Hospice House in Boardman. Family was at his side days preceding his transfer from the hospital. After years of struggling with multiple heart conditions and a recent battle with an aggressive internal infection, he lost the fight at 3:01 a.m.
Born on May 21, 1943, in Youngstown, son of the late Jack and Doris Wilms Hinchcliffe, he attended The Reorganized Church of Latter-Day Saints.
Robert graduated from Fitch High School in 1961 and then honorably served two years in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964 as a wheel and track mechanic in Germany. He has fond memories of his platoon and time overseas.
Thereafter, Robert worked for 45 years at Interstate Baking Company (IBS) or “Wonder Bread,” and retired in 2007 as “Baker Bob.”
Robert “Bob” was active in many sports but particularly enjoyed both playing and watching baseball, football and basketball. Alongside his wife, he got involved with many years of bowling and dancing as well. Other interests included campfires, picnics, desserts, playing cards, corn hole, watching karaoke and playing lottery tickets. His character was genuine and he gratuitously shared his contagious laughter and ornery wit in every conversation. Robert was passionate about family and gave them his all without asking for reciprocation. He was a proud father and even more proud grandfather, as he anxiously looked forward to every moment with his grandchildren.
Robert will be dearly missed by not only his family and friends, but by his local community as well.
Surviving family are his wife, Arlene Pennline Hinchcliffe; two children, Brian Hinchcliffe of New Middletown and Renee (Timothy) Turk of Windham. He is also survived by his sister, Janet (Earl) Jamison; brother, Paul Hinchcliffe; brother-in-law, Stephen (Mary Ellen) Pennline; and three grandchildren, Megan, Zack and Jillian. Also surviving are his nephew, Tim Jamison; niece, Michelle (Jamison) Dique; nephew, Alex Hinchcliffe; four nieces, Diana Hinchcliffe, Nicole Hinchcliffe, Stephanie Pennline Reagan and Melissa Alexandria Pennolino; and several great-nieces and -nephews.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Earl Jamison; his brother, Larry Hinchcliffe; his sister-in-law, Kathleen Hinchcliffe Mikolaj, and his sister-in-law, Norma Jean Burns Hinchcliffe.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave., Boardman. A memorial service on location will immediately follow.
Then Robert will be laid to rest in Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield, where his courageous service to our country will be recognized with military honors.
Thereafter, guests can take part in a “Celebration of Life” at the Youngstown Maennerchor, in Youngstown.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hinchcliffe Family at the Youngstown Maennerchor, 831, Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, OH 44502 or via Zelle to Brian Hinchcliffe.
