John Pasky 1942-2025

STRUTHERS — John Pasky, 83, passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 22, 2025, at St. Mary’s Alzheimer’s Center in Columbiana.

Born April 11, 1942, he was the son of the late John and Grace Widows Pasky.

A 1960 graduate of South High School, John met the love of his life, Bettelou Welch, under charmingly mischievous circumstances; both were made to sit cheek-to-cheek on the same stool for talking too much in class. That moment sparked a love story that led to their marriage in 1962 and 44 cherished years together until Bettelou’s passing in 2006.

John pursued his passion for education by earning a bachelor’s degree in education with a minor in art from Youngstown College, followed by a master’s degree in language arts from the University of Pittsburgh.

He dedicated more than five decades to teaching, beginning at the Youngstown Education Academy, where he served for 33 years. At the same time, he worked part-time at Lustig Shoes, a role he came to love deeply. He later continued his educational career at Willow Creek Learning Center, retiring after 20 additional years of service.

John and Bettelou created a warm, welcoming home together. Their home was not just a place, but a heartfelt expression of the deep love they shared.

He is survived by his two sons, David Pasky of Lowellville and Daniel (Matthew Levinson) Pasky of New Jersey; grandchildren, Sara-Jane (Mike) Page, David John Pasky, William Kachelries and Beckett Rose Pasky-Levinson; and great-grandchildren, LeAunna Kachelries, Evan Page, Emerald Page, Kyle Pasky, Kelsey Kachelries, Scarlet Page and Clover Pasky; daughter-in-law, Carol Burtner; and brother-in-law, Jim Welch.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bettelou; his brothers, Bruce, Jeff and David Pasky; and daughter-in-law, Petra Pasky.

In accordance with John’s wishes, services were held privately with his family.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at St. Mary’s Alzheimer’s Center in Columbiana for their exceptional care and support.

Arrangements were entrusted to Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers. Online condolences may be shared at www.beckerobits.com.
