Carmela R. Kramer 1934-2025
NORTH POTOMAC, Maryland — It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carmela Rose Kramer, a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, and cherished friend, who died peacefully on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at the age of 90, surrounded by family.
Born in 1934 in Youngstown, Carmela grew up in Girard, the daughter of Italian immigrants Salvatore and Stella DeLuca Maiorana.
Carmela “Carm,” married Theodore “Ted” Kramer Sr., on April 7, 1956, and they shared 35 years of marriage until his passing in 1991. Over the years, they raised their family in Poland, Orlando, Florida and North Potomac, Maryland.
A graduate of Youngstown State University, she taught in the Girard City Schools in her early years, later working for the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration and for the Kalen Corporation.
Carm’s gentle spirit and kind heart always made family and friends feel welcome. Whether cooking or sharing Italian or Slovakian family recipes and traditions, sharing stories over a glass of red wine or a cup of coffee, she brought light, laughter and love to all she did and to all who knew her.
She enjoyed lucky streaks at the slot machines with her sisters and friends, playing cards with family, tending to her plants, keeping up with current events and texting on her iPad, and ensuring that no one left her home hungry — with dessert being mandatory.
She is survived by her three children, John Kramer (John Fisher) of Chadds Ford, Pa., Ted Kramer Jr. (Denese Kramer) of Roanoke, Texas, and Annette Stepler (Mark Stepler) of Jefferson, Maryland; and four granddaughters, Kaitlyn (Emma) Stepler, Dayna (Sterling) Korona, Marissa (Josh) Stepler and Isabelle (Mason) Stepler; sisters-in-law, Lori Maiorana and Linda (Joe) Zitnik; and many nieces and nephews.
Carmela was preceded in death by husband, Ted Kramer Sr.; 11 siblings, brothers, Philip Maiorana, Anthony (Tina) Maiorana, Sam (Helen) Maiorana, Fred (Sandy) Maiorana, Guy (Donna) Maiorana and Eugene (Marion) Maiorana; sisters, Virgina (John) Patti, Providenza (Ray) Colantuoni, Maria (Louis) Esposito, Stella Petko and Rose (Bill) DeVaul; Ted Sr.’s parents, John and Anna; and sisters-in-law, Mary (Chuck) Fete and Helen (Steve) Matyi.
A private family service is planned.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to one of the following organizations: Breast Cancer Research Foundation c/o give.bcrf.org; Dove House Hospice c/o lifebridgehealth.org/giving/bridginglife.
