Harry G. Smith III 1944-2025

BOARDMAN — Harry “Butch” G. Smith III, 80, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, with his family at his side.
He was born Sept. 26, 1944, in Youngstown, the son of the late Harry G. and Ruth Drennen Smith II. He was a lifelong area resident.
Butch graduated from South High School in 1963. He enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Berlin, Germany, until his honorable discharge.
After returning home he worked at Youngstown Sheet & Tube. In 1970, he started working for GM Lordstown plant, and he retired in 2006 after 36 years.
Butch and his family are members of St. Patrick Church in Youngstown.
He was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his large extended family. They went on ski trips in the winter months and for over 30 years boating to Catawba Island and Put-In-Bay.
Butch coached his boys when they were younger in football and baseball for Austintown and Canfield sports leagues.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Patricia L. Fritz, whom he married in 1966, they have spent 59 wonderful years together; his boys, Sean Patrick Smith of Austintown and Christopher Sheridan Smith of Boardman; and grandchildren, Liam, Aidan, Sean and Moira Smith.
Butch also leaves his sister, Carole Jones, and brothers and sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews, plus many cousins.
Butch was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Robert Jones.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2025, at St. Patrick Church, 1420 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown, celebrated by the Very Rev. Thomas Kraszewsi.
Interment will be in Jackson Township Cemetery.
The Smith family request material tributes be given in Harry’s name to Soles of Love, P.O. Box 3062, Youngstown, OH 44511.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman.
