Eva Mae Decembly 1935-2025

YOUNGSTOWN — Mrs. Eva Mae Decembly, 90, transitioned peacefully to eternal rest, Friday, May 16, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her daughters, sister and grandchildren. Her parting words were “I am ready! Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Eva was born April 23, 1935, in Youngstown, to Edward and Leatha Cook Bratton. She was a graduate of South High School.

Eva loved to watch game shows, play bingo, discuss politics with her sister and spend time with her friends at the Salvation Army. While going to the Salvation Army, she would do missionary work, taking food to people in the neighborhood and to those who could not come out due to health issues.

Eva was a member of Greater Friendship Baptist Church and a former member of Antioch Baptist Church.

On Aug. 20, 1956, Eva married the love of her life, Perry Graham Decembly, who passed away March 24, 1999.

She leaves to cherish her memory and to carry on her legacy, three daughters, Debra, Diana and Ada Decembly, all of Youngstown; 10 grandchildren, including three she reared, Jaime and Lela Decembly, and Duane Leggett II; 15 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley J. Howell of Cleveland; and a host of loving family and friends.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Eva and Aletha Decembly; a son, John McKinley Everson III; sisters, Dorothy Holland, Shirleen Moore and Edna Teague; her brothers, Herman and Charles Bratton; a grandson, Perry Everson; and a great-grandson, Darrin Mitchell Jr.

Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2025, at Greater Friendship Baptist Church, 646 Lakewood Ave., Youngstown, OH 44502. A celebration of life will follow at 11 a.m.
