Doris M. Vangeloff 1926-2025

AUSTINTOWN — Doris Muriel Wright Vangeloff, 99, passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born Jan. 3, 1926, in Youngstown, the second of five children of George and Emma Krichbaum Wright.
Doris spent her childhood in the house her father built. As a young girl, she was a tomboy, always climbing trees or riding on the handlebars of her older brother George’s secondhand bike. Being the oldest girl, she served as a second mom to her three younger sisters, as well as the leader of the “Wright Sisters” babysitting services. Attending Boardman schools, she was a very bright student, excelling in typing and shorthand dictation, which garnered her first job at the steel mill offices.
She met the love of her life, Walter, at a YMCA Friday night mixer over a bowl of red Jell-O. They were married April 9, 1949, and continued their love of music and dancing for the next 70 years of marriage.
Mrs. Vangeloff spent many happy years raising her four children and developed a lifelong passion for roses and gardening in her beloved rock garden. In her kitchen, she was renowned for her bread, pies and cookies, and would bake 18 different kinds of cookies as well as nut rolls every Christmas to share with her family.
She will be remembered as a vibrant, inspiring and loving mother, grandmother and friend.
Surviving are her children, Beverly Vangeloff-Cook of Burlington, North Carolina, Gary Vangeloff of Youngstown and Jim (Amy) Vangeloff of Carmel, Indiana; sisters, Georgia (Jack) Crytzer of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Elva (Paul) Easton of Boardman; her five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walt; daughter, Nancy Vangeloff; son-in-law, Gary Cook; her brother, George; and sister, Grace (Herb) Mincher.
Friends and family may call 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2025, with a “sharing time” to follow at 4 p.m., at Lane Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Doris may be given to Victoria House Assisted Living, 5295 Ashley Circle, Austintown.
