Audrey L. Frost 1942-2025

HUBBARD – Audrey L. Frost, 82, passed away suddenly, Monday, Jan. 20, 2025, after a brief illness, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. She was surrounded by loved ones at the time of her passing.

She was born Audrey Lynne Orr, on Dec. 1, 1942, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, to Ray and Marion Stafford Orr. She grew up in Hubbard with brothers Ray, John and Ed, and by the age of 11 was helping to care for them.

She married her only husband, Allan J. Frost I, on March 12, 1962, and over the next decade gave birth to five children: Shannon, Allan II, Maureen, Bridgit and Daniel. Her children were precious to her, and apart from a brief period in Rockdale, Texas,in 1977 (where she developed a taste for authentic Mexican cuisine), Audrey and her family were lifelong residents of Hubbard.

Audrey and Allen were married 31 years until Allan’s untimely passing in 1993.

Audrey was a talented, intelligent and independent woman with a passion for music, and received her bachelor’s degree in music, with an emphasis on vocal performance, from Youngstown State University in 1989. She spent several years as a substitute music teacher at elementary and high schools in the area, and was a member of the Youngstown Symphony Chorus, with whom she performed at Carnegie Hall and toured the Czech Republic and Slovakia. As a solo performer, she sang at numerous weddings and other occasions.

Audrey was also passionate about her faith and was a dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church in Youngstown, with whom she performed missionary work in Nogales, Mexico, and in Russia, helping to supply and improve orphanages. She also served for several years as head cook for the Presbyterian House at the Chautauqua Institute in New York, where she prepared meals for visiting clergy.

She was active in her community, serving as the first female soccer referee for the Hubbard Community Youth League, and also acting as a leader for the Girl Scouts and the Cub Scouts. She had a keen intellect and read voraciously, and she was a frequent and enthusiastic patron and supporter of local libraries.

Without a doubt, Audrey had a strong will — with strong opinions to match — but to her family, she was a devoted and loving matriarch who served as an anchor point for their lives. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren without reservation and she made certain to take each grandchild on a special trip someplace, providing personal, lasting memories for each. To her entire family, she was a source of strength and support, and she will be deeply and forever missed.

Audrey was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Allan J. Frost; her son, Allan J. Frost II; and her brothers, Ray, John and Ed Orr.

She is survived by daughters, Shannon Wiery-Bayley of Girard, Maureen (John Waller) Frost of Boardman, Bridgit Frost of Boardman; son, Daniel Frost of Hubbard; grandchildren, Robert (Bridgette) and Patrick Wiery, and Owen Waller; and great-grandchildren, Robert and Charlie Wiery.

There will be services held at noon Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, with calling hours 10 a.m to noon, at Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home.
