America Burgos 1930-2025
CAMPBELL — America “Lely” Burgos, 94, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family, Friday, Jan. 3, 2025.
America was born July 29, 1930, in Coamo, Puerto Rico, the only child of Juan Rodriguez and Cruz Miranda.
She married the love of her life, Anibal Burgos, in 1946; they were married for 66 years until his passing in 2012.
In the 1950s, Lely and Anibal moved to Campbell, where they raised their seven daughters and one son.
She was an employee at Penn-Ohio Towel Supply Company of Youngstown.
She was a parishioner of the former Sta. Rosa de Lima Church and one of the pioneers of the Las Damas Society and a Cursillista.
America also was a resident of Coamo, Puerto Rico. She enjoyed dancing with her husband, listening to Spanish music, sewing, doing word search puzzles and watching baseball games, especially the Cleveland Indians. She was an amazing homemaker who made her house a home for all. She made every visitor who stepped into her home feel loved and welcomed. Her heart was bigger than her physical self.
Lely enjoyed spending every moment possible with her growing, loving family, making many beautiful memories that will be cherished forever by the legacy she and her husband have left.
She will be deeply missed and always remembered by her family, Evelyn (Raul) Rivera of Campbell, Martha (Angel) Toledo of Lorain, Roselyn (Chico) Gonzalez of Campbell, Miladys (Frank) Ocasio of Boardman, Sandra (Porfirio Jr.) Esparra of Youngstown, Joann Burgos of Boardman and Nancy (Reynaldo) Esparra of Boardman; 26 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She will also be dearly missed by many families and friends from both Puerto Rico and Ohio, that absolutely adored her beautiful heart and wonderful smile and hugs.
America was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Anibal; and her beloved son, Jose Anibal Burgos Jr.
The Burgos family would like to thank the staff of Akeso Home Hospice for their loving guidance and care of our beloved mother.
The family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell, with calling hours 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025.
