Virginia Viera 1946-2024

BOARDMAN — With heavy hearts, we are saddened to announce the unexpected passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Virginia Viera, 78. A resident of Boardman, Virginia passed away Wednesday evening, Oct. 23, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Virginia was born Feb. 12, 1946, in Isabela, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Pedro and Monserrate Alago Castro, and moved to the Youngstown area in 1977. A hard-working and dedicated woman, Virginia retired from the Youngstown Board of Education as a custodian. At the time of her passing, she remained employed at Southwood’s Hospital.

Virginia devoted her life to nurturing, caring for and spending time with her family, who were always her top priority. She also enjoyed shopping, dancing and faithfully getting her hair and nails done. An active member of the Spanish Evangelical Church, Virginia was devoted to God and her faith.

Virginia leaves to forever cherish her memories, her beloved four children, Jeffrey (Mari) Viera of Youngstown, Jannette (Frank) Reyes of Youngstown, Joe (Beckie) Viera of Howland and Marlene (Marcus Clinkscale) Viera of Boardman. In addition, she leaves her eight grandchildren whom she adored, Jeffrey Jr. (Niki) Viera, Jessica Viera, Justin Viera, Elijah Reyes, Jannessa Reyes, Paige Raines, Antron Naze Jr. (Alexus Hill) and Anthony (Shanikwa) Naze. She is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by a host of extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her two brothers, Pedro Castro Jr. and Hector Castro.

Family and friends may pay their respects 11 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, at Spanish Evangelical Church, 369 Keystone Ave., Youngstown, where a funeral service will take place at 1 p.m.

Additional calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman. A brief funeral prayer service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Committal will commence at Lake Park Cemetery, Youngstown.
