Edward M. Brennan III 1934-2024
BOARDMAN — Edward Michael Brennan III, 90, affectionately known as “Papa” to his grandchildren and great-grandchild, passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Ed was born Jan. 9, 1934, in Youngstown, to Edward and Mary Victor Brennan.
He was a graduate of St. Patrick’s and of Ursuline High School.
Ed “Slip” worked at Wonder Bread Bakery for 30 years. He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Youngstown. He was a social member of the Croatian Club for many years.
Ed was an avid Notre Dame and Cleveland Browns fan his entire life. He cheered them on through thick and thin.
He enjoyed bowling, golfing, boating at Berlin Lake and Lake Erie, going to the casinos, horse-racing tracks and traveling. He took many trips to Hollywood, Florida, Las Vegas and North Carolina, as well as Ireland and Italy.
Ed is survived by his wife, Eleanor Zorella Brennan, whom he married Feb. 19, 1955. They shared 69 years together. He also leaves his children, Terri (George) Luke and Shari (Todd) Harmon. Ed will always be remembered lovingly by his grandsons, Scott (Maurie) Harmon of Canfield, Matt Harmon of Canfield and Mark Luke of Nashville; and a great-grandson, Franco Harmon of Canfield.
After retiring from the bakery Ed spent much of his time attending all the sporting events of Scott and Matt. Papa never missed a game or an event that included his grandsons. He was always willing to help out at McCune Park as an umpire or cheer from the sidelines. He spent the summers officiating backyard baseball, football, swimming, fort building, paintball and whatever the boys got him involved in. It was there that he shared words of wisdom and taught valuable life lessons in a way that only Papa could do.
Mark was a swimmer and played the drums in the Appalachian State University Band.
A private service took place Sept. 11, 2024, per Ed’s wishes.
“The loss of a father is a heavy burden to bear. He’s a source of quiet strength that is so missed when he’s not there. Take comfort he’s in Heaven and looking down at you. He’ll be there through the coming years, watching over and guiding you. He’s your very own guardian angel and he’ll be with you to the end when you meet again in Heaven and your broken heart will finally mend.”
Professional arrangements were handled by Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Heartland Hospice Staff., especially Britney Ross and Chelsey Hall. They both went above and beyond to offer such special care and compassion. Their efforts will be remembered forever.
