William E. Alexander 1937-2024

NEW MIDDLETOWN — William Earl Alexander passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, July 31, 2024.

William was born July 26, 1937, in Youngstown, to Earl and Hazel Thurston Alexander, both who preceded him in death.

William attended Wilson High School. After graduating from high school, William served and protected our country in the United States Navy. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, William worked at Wean United Steel for 25-plus years until its closing. Continuing with his desire to serve others, William enrolled in Youngstown State University and earned his RN, which he was very proud of. William used his RN skills to take care of residents in nursing homes.

William’s life was filled with the family and friends whom he loved. He will be remembered for his great outlook on life, as well as his great sense of humor. Blackjack was such a favorite game of William’s that he named his pet cockatiel “Blackjack.” William enjoyed gardening and tinkering in his garage.

Strong in his faith at Old Springfield Church, William will be remembered as one of the strongest people you have ever met.

Those left to cherish William’s memory are his loving wife, Jean Elizabeth Solmen Alexander; children, William Earl Alexander Jr., Michael Thomas Alexander and Heather (Kevin) Jean Sferra; and 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, William was preceded in death by his sons, Brian Johns and Bruces John; and siblings, Wanda Aeppli and Thomas Alexander.

There will be no calling hours, but a celebration of life will take place at a later time.
