Geraldine Banovich Bittinger Taylor 1933-2024

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — Geraldine “Gerry” Banovich Bittinger Taylor passed away peacefully, Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Park Springs Retirement Community. She was 91.

Born July 16, 1933, in Struthers, Gerry was the daughter of Pete and Mary Banovich. She grew up in a loving family and carried that love and kindness throughout her life. Gerry was a woman of great warmth and generosity, known for her beautiful sweet spirit and unwavering dedication to her family.

Gerry was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bud Taylor. They met at Park Springs Retirement Community and enjoyed 12 wonderful years of marriage and traveling.

Gerry is survived by her sister, Marilyn Joseph of Struthers; her daughter, Colleen Bittinger of Atlanta, Georgia; and her son, Ken Bittinger (Sharon) of Marietta, Georgia. She was a proud grandmother to Dan Bittinger (Lisa) and Kaitlin Ecie (Matt) and a cherished great-grandmother to Caleb and Emma Ecie, and Avery and Cooper Bittinger. Extended family members include niece, Lynn Joseph of Atlanta, Georgia, and nephew, Don Joseph (Missy) and their children, AJ and Abby Joseph of New Middletown.

Gerry graduated from Struthers High School and attended Kent State University, where she was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. She led a vibrant and adventurous life as a career Army officer’s wife for 20 years, during which she moved 14 times across the United States, Germany and Thailand. After settling in Atlanta, she enjoyed working as a court clerk in DeKalb County Superior Court.

In her retirement, Gerry was actively involved with the Friendship Force, an organization promoting global understanding and friendship. Her travels with the Friendship Force took her to Vietnam, China, Russia, New Zealand and Ghana. She reciprocated by warmly welcoming many international visitors into her home.

She was an active member of her local church.

A service will be held to honor Gerry’s life Aug. 10, 2024, at St. Michael Episcopal Church, Stone Mountain, Georgia.

Gerry will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
