Antoinette M. Zetts 1939-2024

YOUNGSTOWN — Antoinette M. Zetts, lovingly known as Toni, passed at the age of 85, Sunday evening, Aug. 25, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.

She was born July 29, 1939, in Lowellville, to Anthony and Rose Nocera Trimble, and was raised in Struthers.

Toni was proud to be a graduate of Struthers High School, Class of 1957. Her career in banking began at First Federal Bank of Youngstown, which later became First Place Bank. After 16 dedicated years of service, she retired in 1998 as a switchboard operator.

A devoted member of Holy Family Church, Toni found joy in singing and was a former participant in the church choir. Her love for music shone brightly throughout her life. She showcased her talents on the “Ted Mack Show” in New York City and achieved recognition by being a two-time winner of the “Poland Idol” competition at the Celebrate Poland festivities. Additionally, Toni shared her passion for music with residents in local nursing homes and took part in live theater performances at Top Hat Productions.

Toni and her husband, Jerome Zetts, known affectionately as Jerry, shared 57 years of marriage. Together, they traveled to Las Vegas, where Toni indulged in her enthusiasm for playing slot machines.

Toni’s warmth and caring spirit extended to her family and friends, who were the center of her world. A three-time cancer survivor, she faced her challenges with an inspiring positive attitude and unwavering resilience.

She will be deeply missed by her husband, Jerry, whom she married Sept. 30, 1967; her three daughters, Laurie (Jim Marco) Zetts of Canfield, Rosemary Zetts of Las Vegas and Valerie (Todd) Commons of Canfield; her sister, Sandra Lorenz of Struthers; and her three cherished grandchildren, Justin (Kelli Mehlberg) Zetts of Seattle and Ava and Gianna Commons of Canfield. Toni is also survived by her brother-in-law, Joe Nocera of Coitsville, and numerous nieces and nephews, including Stefanie Boggs of Boardman, Jill Trimble of Poland, Brian (Danielle) Lorenz of Etters, Pa., and David (Kate) Lorenz of Powell.

Toni was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Patrick Trimble; brothers-in-law, Ed Lorenz and John Zetts; and sister-in-law, Mary Dolores “Dodie” Nocera.

Services for Antoinette will begin with visitation 9 to 10:15 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland, where a prayer service will take place at 10:15 a.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Church in Poland, with the Rev. Gerald DeLucia officiating. A luncheon will follow at Holy Family Parish Center.
