Alexander A. Giambattista Sr. 1930- 2024

YOUNGSTOWN — Alexander A. Giambattista Sr., 94, passed away peacefully, Saturday, July 27, 2024.

He was born June 13, 1930, in Leetonia,­­­ son of the late Matteo “Matthew” and Lucy DiGiacomo Giambattista.

Alex was an East High School graduate and courageously served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He retired from General Electric Lamp Plant after 30 years of service.

A devout Catholic, he was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish-St. Matthias Church.

Alex was an avid bowler and golfer, where he won champion of his work golf league. He was a die-hard New York Yankees fan. He loved traveling to Vegas and local casinos, and gardening, especially tomatoes and garlic. He also enjoyed attending his grandsons’ sporting and music events, and cooking his favorite Italian foods, especially pizza and soup, but his greatest joy was spending time with family during Sunday dinners.

Alex is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Banas, whom he married June 16, 1956; two sons, Alexander Jr. of Boardman and Bruce (Dina) Giambattista of Canfield; three grandchildren, Craig (Lianne) Giambattista of Aurora, Brittany Trees (Geoff) of Sewickley, Pa., and Jimmy Steinbeck (Kate) of Rocky River; three great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Eli Trees, and Kennedy Steinbeck; brother, Mike (Anita) Giambattista of Boardman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Joseph Giambattista; grandson, Ryan Giambattista; three sisters, Catherine Paul, Joan Avritt and Grace Ferenchak; and two brothers, Gabriel and Anthony Giambattista.

Friends and family may call 9 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish-St. Matthias Church in Youngstown, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial.
