Margaret Brooks 1925-2024
POLAND — Margaret Jones Brooks, 98, passed away Friday, May 17, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, C. Richard Brooks, whom she married Aug. 10, 1946.
Born Nov. 24, 1925, in Youngstown, she was a daughter of the late James H. and Naomi Novella Vasey Jones.
Margaret was a 1943 graduate of Struthers High School. She worked as a stenographer with Youngstown Sheet and Tube for many years until their closure.
Taking a break from work, she took time taking care of her father who was ill, until his passing. Margaret made the decision to attend classes at Youngstown State University and pursued a career with the Poland Board of Education as a board office secretary, where she worked for several years.
She enjoyed spending her days on the green, where she could be found golfing, and was a member of several golfing leagues at Lake Front Golf Course in Columbiana. She loved traveling, especially on the many cruises she took with her sister, some of which would include Alaska, the Bahamas, Caribbean and the Panama Canal. Her love of football was nothing she was shy about, a beloved Steelers and University of Michigan fan at heart, you could always find her watching the games on TV, and even attending a few in person. She was always up for a good piece of chocolate to cure her sweet tooth. Above all, she cherished her moments being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Terri (Tony J.) Brooks-Favarula of Poland and Gregg (Rebecca Floch) of St. Pete Beach, Florida; grandson, Tony R. (Brenda Whaley) Favarula of Chicago, Illinois; great-grandchildren, August, Ophelia and Levi Favarula; niece and nephew, Sandra Morgan-Pool and James Richard Morgan, both of Arizona; and great-nephew, Eric Morgan.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, James H. Jones Jr.; and her sister, Naomi (Rich) Morgan.
A graveside service to honor Margaret will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2024, at Lake Park Cemetery, 1459 E. Midlothian Blvd., Youngstown, OH 44502.
The family would like to thank the staff at Windsor Estates Assisted Living, New Middletown, for the wonderful care of their mom these past couple of years.
Arrangements are entrusted to Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers. Condolences may be made www.beckerobits.com.
