John F. Kodash 1949-2024
BOARDMAN — John F. “Jack” Kodash, 74, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Thursday evening, June 13, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born Oct. 4, 1949, in Youngstown, Jack was the cherished son of the late John “Cody” Kodash and Anna Marie DeMichael Kodash and was a lifelong area resident.
Jack was a proud alumnus of Ursuline High School, Class of 1967, and later graduated from Youngstown State University. His dedication to his country was evident through his honorable service in the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserve.
For 25 years, Jack courageously served as a firefighter with the city of Youngstown, a role he performed with unwavering commitment and bravery. His leadership and financial insight were further demonstrated through his 30-year tenure as the manager of the Youngstown Firefighters Credit Union.
Beyond his professional life, Jack was a passionate sports enthusiast. He was an avid supporter of the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, Ohio State Buckeyes, and YSU Penguins. His love for sports was matched by his enthusiasm for reading, gardening, and his frequent trips to Las Vegas.
Jack leaves to forever cherish his memory his wife of 52 years, Kathy Ruscak Kodash, whom he married July 31, 1971; his two daughters, Melanie Kodash and her husband, Aaron Olson of Clayton, California, and Missy (Christian) Peters of Las Vegas, Nevada; two “granddogs” Cooper and Winston; his sister-in-law, Bunny (Rick) Vickers of Austintown; several extended family members; and many friends.
Family and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where a funeral service will take place at 11 a.m.
A committal service with military honors will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown.
