Supersized salutation from Youngstown

Mural celebrates city for America250

Muralist Patrick McGlone, owner of Overall Painting Co. of Youngstown, spray paints latex masonry primer Thursday morning on the brick facade of the Purple Cat Disco Garden at 107 W. Federal St. in downtown Youngstown.

McGlone’s work is part of the “Layers of Legacy,” a mural on the building’s west side. McGlone and local artists Christina Bunevich, Willie Duck Jr. and Daniel Madeline all took part in the two-week project.

The greeting is a tribute to the city’s history, culture and community spirit in honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Sponsored by the nonprofit Economic Action Group and the city of Youngstown, the mural will be completed July 2.

Funding was provided through a grant from the America250 Ohio Commission to tell the story of Youngstown’s past, present, and future through public art.

The finished mural will be unveiled July 3.

Starting at $3.85/week.
