Frank J. Gaca Jr. 1940-2024

YOUNGSTOWN — Frank J. Gaca Jr., 84, passed away in the comfort of his home, Monday, June 3, 2024.

Frank was born Jan. 31, 1940, in Youngstown, a son of the late Frank J. and Jennie Bodnar Gaca.

Frank was a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of South High School and worked at the General Motors Lordstown Assembly Plant for more than 30 years before retiring in 2000. He was a dedicated worker and strived to ensure quality in the GM cars being built at Lordstown throughout the years. He always provided for his family and made the time to be a great father, husband, son and grandfather.

Mr. Gaca was a member of St. Christine Church.

Frank was a man of many talents and passions. His musical talents were widely recognized. He was a skilled musician and an accomplished accordionist, bringing joy to many through his music.

Frank enjoyed playing card games with his family; he had a love for playing golf and enjoyed just tinkering around his house with many projects. He particularly loved being with his children and grandchildren, and cherished his time passing along his values and joy for life.

Frank leaves to forever cherish his memory, his wife of 62 years, Karen Bernard Gaca, whom he married May 5, 1962; his daughter, Marcee (Mark) Potesta of Naples, Florida; his two sons, Richard Gaca of Austintown and Gary (Patricia) Gaca of Austintown; six grandchildren, Mark Potesta Jr., Matthew Potesta, Garett Gaca, Darcy Gaca, Carlee Gaca and Angela Gaca; a great-granddaughter Oaklynn; a brother, Ronald (Kathleen) Gaca of Columbiana; sisters-in-law, Patricia (Robert) Bushman and Andra Jones; and many extended family members.

A sister, Donna (James) Carter, preceded Frank in death.

Private family services were held Friday, June 7, 2024, at Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown. Committal services took place at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
