Karen S. Rentz 1958-2024

YOUNGSTOWN — Karen S. Rentz, 65, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, after a prolonged and valiant fight with cancer.

Karen was born Karen S. Shevetz, on Oct. 20, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Michael and Helen Gbur Shevetz. The family moved to Hubbard, where she was raised with her three brothers. Karen graduated in 1977 from Hubbard High School. She married Dale T. Rentz, in September 1991, who preceded her in death in 2022.

Karen worked as a property manager for many years for various companies, most recently Community Action Partnership of Mercer County.

Karen loved spending time camping, reading, traveling and with family. She was a devout member of Believers Church, where she and Dale managed “to fill the row” before his death.

Karen will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her brother, Michael Shevetz; three children, Timothy (Rachel) Frease, Nicole (Shane) Ferreri and Michael Rentz; and five grandchildren, Abagail, Bridget, Zachary, Ethan and Tenley. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as grandma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale T. Rentz; and brothers, John and James Shevetz.

The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2024, with a funeral service immediately following, at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman.
