Theresa H. Susa 1929-2024

SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. — After 95 years, Theresa H. Wojton Susa was welcomed into the arms of our Lord on Sunday, April 14, 2024.

She was born on April 21, 1929, to the late Josephine V. and Stanley F. Wojton.

She was raised a devout Catholic at St. Stanislaw Church / School, then went on to Woodrow Wilson High School. She started working at age 14, during WWIl, at the Youngstown Public Market. At the age of 17, she quit school to help support her family’s financial needs to work full-time at 7-Up Bottling Co. At 21 years old, she worked at GE Bulb Manufacturing Company. On Sept. 2, 1950, she married Albert J. Susa and had four children.

She enjoyed sewing clothes for her girls and their dolls and traveling to visit family and friends.

She loved cooking, baking, decorating and was known for her homemade pizza, perogies and cinnamon rolls. To help support the family she did various jobs including telephone book distributions, cleaning medical offices and, in 1972, worked for GF Business Equipment as cook assistant for five years.

For 54 years she was an avid bowler until the age of 89. She socialized at the Holiday Bowling Alley on a team called “The Honey Bears,” which went on to win many tournaments. In 2018, she moved to St. Louis with her daughter, Cynthia. From 2022 to the present, she lived in a four-generation home in Simpsonville, South Carolina. There she loved spending time with her great-grandchildren, filling her time reading over 500 mystery books, traveling and doing many word search puzzles.

In addition to her parents, and husband, Albert J. Susa, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Christine Szallai (Dale); and siblings, Stanley Wojton, Edward Wojton, Veronica Feret, Daniel Wojton and Joseph Wojton.

She leaves her loving children, JoAnn Woytek (David), Cynthia Poulakos (Peter) and Carolyn Reed (Robert); eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

On behalf of Theresa H. Susa and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Open Arms Hospice, 1836 W. Georgia Rd., Simpsonville, SC 29680, for their exceptional care and devotion to families in need.
