Raymond D. DeBonis 1938-2024

CANFIELD — Raymond D. DeBonis, 86, formerly of Hubbard, passed away surrounded by his loving family at home, Monday April 22, 2024.

Raymond was born Feb. 27, 1938, in Youngstown, a son of Dominic and Mary A. Manilla DeBonis.

He was a 1956 graduate of Hubbard High School and later received his bachelor’s degree from Grove City College.

Raymond was in management for many years, where he worked on the manufacturing of railroad equipment at the following companies: Greenville Steel Car, GATX, Electric Furnace in Salem, Pittsburgh Forging and Lyco Manufacturing, retiring in 2001. He was the past president of the American Welding Society and life member of the American Welding Association.

He was a member of Canfield Presbyterian Church where he was an elder, and a former member of Hubbard Presbyterian Church. He also was a member of Round Table Wood Carvers.

Raymond was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served with the 348th Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

His hobbies included his 1940 Ford, wood carving of ducks and Santa Clauses, and collecting antiques.

He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his family: his wife, the former Carol J. Doughton, whom he married July 8, 1961; his children, Amy L. DeBonis of Columbus, James R. (Jeanne) DeBonis of Brecksville and Scott R. (Kimberly) DeBonis of Canfield; and two grandchildren, Dominic DeBonis and Anthony DeBonis.

His parents preceded him in death.

There will be services held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2024, at Canfield Presbyterian Church, with calling hours from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Raymond will be laid to rest in Hubbard Union Cemetery.
