Mary, who was affectionately known as Mayo by friends and family, was born April 16, 1924, in Campbell, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Susie Vavrek Pacak, and lived in the area for most of her life, spending 37 years in Monessen, Pa.

She was a 1943 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, and in her younger days, Mary worked for Triangle Coat Factory, Woolworth’s, Furin’s Market and Moyer Pants Factory before dedicating her adult life to raising and caring for her children.

Deeply rooted in her faith, Mary was a devout member of St. Michael Orthodox Church in Youngstown. She generously volunteered her time to several church activities over the years, including her involvement in the altar society and the St. Michael Craft Club.

Known for her skill with a needle and thread, Mary was a proficient seamstress who found great joy in the art of sewing. Early on she attended pattern drafting school to hone her craft. In addition to sewing, Mary delighted in cooking, baking and collecting recipes. Above all, she treasured the moments spent surrounded by her family.

She is survived by her three children, Irene J. Geletka, Dr. Susan M. Geletka and Dr. Stephen N. Geletka, all of Canfield; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Her husband, Stephen Geletka, whom she married Jan. 25, 1947, passed away April 26, 1998.

Mary also joins her brother, Joseph Pacak; her sister, Olga Friedman; and several nieces and nephews in eternal rest.
