Marjorie J. Geitgey 1932-2024

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Marjorie J. Geitgey, 91, had her eternal birthday Friday, March 29, 2024, at Masternick Memorial Nursing Home, New Middletown.

Marjorie was born Nov. 1, 1932, in Canton, the daughter of George and Martha Matthews Halter.

She was a graduate of Timken High School. After raising her children, she worked for Family Book Store, which was the perfect job for her since she loved to read. Marjorie sang in the Paradise Church Choir for many years and belonged to many organizations: She was a member and one-time president of the Pittsburgh Blind Association Women’s Auxiliary, a member of Monroeville Aglow, and Searchlight Literary Club, North Lima.

Marjorie is survived by her children, David (Georgia) Geitgey and Steven (Nina) Geitgey; grandchildren, Christina (Brandon) Kappler, Heather (Jonathan) Root and Marianne Mercalde; and great-grandchildren, Owen, Evie, Elijah, Levi, Eliana, Joshua, Luna and Matthew.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane Geitgey, whom she married in 1952; and by triplet great-grandchildren, Nolan, Brantley and Amelia Kappler.

She has always been not only the best of mothers, but a truly wonderful and beautiful person and example of faith, who brought joy to many lives. As the proverb says, “her children rise up and call her blessed,” and we certainly do! While we mourn her passing, we are sure that she is now rejoicing in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ and hearing the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Family and friends may call 10:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Paradise Church, 10020 New Buffalo Road, Canfield, where there will be a brief memorial service at 11 a.m.

Professional arrangements are being handled by the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel.
