Margaret E. Fieger 1932-2024

ELYRIA — Margaret Ernistine Fieger, 91 1/2, joined her husband in heaven, Saturday, March 30, 2024, after a battle with complications from congestive heart failure.

She was born Aug. 7, 1932, in Youngstown, the daughter of Ferl and Eva Eyster, and she resided in Mahoning County the majority of her life.

She was a graduate of Boardman High School and The Ohio State University School of Music (bachelor’s and master’s degrees), formally a member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church and a former longtime member of St. Andrew Episcopal Church, both in Canfield. She was an extraordinary pianist, directed the junior choir at St. Andrew’s, was an active member of the adult choir, was rehearsal and show accompanist for a number of musicals with Potter Players Community Theater, played with the Community Belles and Beaus handbell team based in Canfield and was a substitute organist at a variety of local churches in the Canfield area. Additionally, she was very active in Operation Blessing Food Bank in Canfield.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Fieger of Elyria; a son, Wallace of Findlay; three grandchildren, Angie Higgins (Huston), Brendan Baker and Taylor Fieger (Alvin Rock); and two great-grandchildren, Nash and Hayes Higgins. She is also survived by her brother, Louis, and eight nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace R. Fieger Sr., whom she married June 10, 1961; parents, Ferl and Eva Eyster; and a sister, Carol Wiestling.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at St. Paul Episcopal Church in Medina.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to one of the organizations Margaret supported: Operation Blessing in Canfield; St. Paul’s Free Farmers Market in Medina; Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Canfield; or the American Cancer Society.
