Earnest C. Murray 1944-2024

YOUNGSTOWN — Mr. Earnest C. Murray, 79, transitioned from his earthly labor to his Heavenly reward on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Murray, affectionately known as “Ernie,” was born Dec. 24, 1944, in Mechanicsville, Virginia, a son of Clyde Sr. and Florence Moran Murray. He had been employed as a certified tire repairman with Shotts Tire Service, an assistant manager in the oil division with Petro Oil and his last employment with Truck World in environmental services, retiring in 2022.

Ernie was a member of Alpha and Omega First Baptist Church. He loved “Cars,” social games, music, grilling and yardwork. He was known for his “sweet tea” and fried chicken.

He leaves to mourn his passing but to celebrate his life and legacy, his wife, the former Rebecca A. Thomas, whom he married Nov. 9, 1997; two daughters, Channal Franklin of Campbell and Brandie Thomas of Youngstown; two sons, Earnest C. Murray Jr. of Richmond, Virginia, and Channing C. Franklin of Youngstown; 10 grandchildren, including Genice Williams, whom he helped rear; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, William, James and Thomas all of Virginia, and Eldridge of North Carolina; his godchildren, Alan Rouse and Keyauna Berry; his sister-in-law, Renee Spence of Youngstown; and a host of nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly; and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, the Rev. Clyde Jr. and Charles Murray, Virginia Smith, Madeline Radford, Julia Patterson, Norma Murray and Thelma Jefferson.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Alpha & Omega First Baptist Church, 3120 Winton Ave., Youngstown. A celebration of life will follow at noon.
