Claudia Jeanne Corbe, 1948-2024

YOUNGSTOWN — Claudia Jeanne Corbe, 75, passed away early Thursday morning, April 4, 2024, at Hospice House, with her loving family by her side.

Mrs. Corbe was born Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1948, in Medford, Massachusetts. She was a daughter of James H. Murphy and C. Marie Ouellette Murphy, and came to the Youngstown area in the fall of 1979.

She was employed by Youngstown State University in the student teaching program to offer guidance and education to her students. Mrs. Corbe was also the gifted coordinator for the Maplewood, Bristol and Badger school systems, and then to the Girard school system, in which she evaluated and placed gifted children before retiring in 2015.

Claudia was a member of St. Edward Parish and was involved with marriage preparation and the RCIA programs at the church. Her passions included literature, “Masterpiece Theater” on PBS and the arts. A lifelong francophile, she had a love of French cuisine inspired by her idol, Julia Child. She taught cooking classes at the Jewish Community Center and other locations, but had the most enjoyment hosting parties at her beautiful home. Her green thumb and love for her yard provided peace and tranquility for the flowers that bloomed constantly.

She received her Bachelor of Arts at Salem University in Massachusetts, did graduate studies in English at the State University of New York – Oswego and special education at Penn State University. She received her Master of Science in special education from Youngstown State University. She had a passion for helping young minds grow into creative and intelligent adults.

Claudia leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Herve Corbe, whom she married Sept. 3, 1972; son, James Corbe, his wife Chayanin Pornsriniyom, their son Luc Corbe of Brooklyn, New York; and a sister, Nancy Caswell; and nieces, Liz Clark and Katy Pare of Massachusetts.

Claudia was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, David Murphy.

The family will receive relatives and friends 10 to 11:55 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2024, at St. Edward Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon, celebrated by Monsignor Robert Siffrin.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, North Lima, OH 44514; and / or St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, 1044 Belmont Ave., Youngstown, OH 44504.
