Barbara J. Betters, 1925-2024

Barbara was born June 23, 1925, in Youngstown, a daughter of Charles Sr. and Bertha Gibbs Benford. She graduated from East High School in 1943.

She married the love of her life, George Betters, on April 27, 1955, and was a homemaker. After 41 wonderful years, her husband passed away, Jan. 8, 1996.

She loved knitting and crocheting. She was a faithful member of Phillips Chapel C.M.E. Church, where she served in the Missionary Society and sang in the Senior Choir.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her nephew and his wife who were her caregivers, Philip and Catherine Hodge of Hubbard; her niece, Lynette Murry; other nieces and nephews; and her good neighbor, Rosa Adams. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Hodge and Dorothy Ricketts; and three brothers, Clement G. Benford, Paul L. Benford and Charles L. Benford Jr.

Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Phillips Chapel C.M.E. Church, 718 Albert St., Youngstown, OH. 44506, with funeral services starting at 11 a.m.
