Sherry M. Winkler Veauthier 1947-2024

BOARDMAN — Sherry M. Winkler Veauthier, 77, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, March 6, 2024, at St. Mary’s Alzheimer’s Center in Columbiana.

She was born Jan. 23, 1947, in Youngstown, the daughter of Hazel C. Peterson; she was a lifelong area resident.

Sherry graduated from South High School, class of 1964. She then attended and graduated from Choffin School of Nursing, as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

She married the love of her life, Robert J. “Bob” Veauthier on May 20, 1967, at St. Patrick’s Church; soon after, she was a homemaker and started raising her children.

Sherry had many interests; she was a “Jack of all Trades.” She was very involved with the Austintown Schools Lynn Kirk PTA, where she was past president; the Austintown Hot Stove Baseball League; and the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.

Sherry was the planning advisor and organizer for several charter bus trips to the Pennsylvania Amish country and also many trips to Sugar Creek. She loved crafts, especially painting and making ceramics. She enjoyed many years of camping at Indian Creek Campgrounds at Geneva-on-the-Lake.

Sherry leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband of 57 years, Robert “Bob” Veauthier; her children, sons, Mark Joseph (Lynette) Veauthier of Boardman, Robert Paul Veauthier of Austintown, and daughter, Christy Joy (Matthew) Straub of Boardman; her brother, Micheal Melia of Boardman; and sister, Lois Arreola of New London, Wisconsin.

Sherry loved her grandchildren, Robbie (McKenzie) Veauthier, Noah and Kaitlyn Veauthier and Adrianna and Allison Straub; and two great-grandchildren, James and Chase Veauthier.

Sherry was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel Peterson Melia and her father who raised her, Joseph Thomas Melia; as well as her brother, Rickey Winkler.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2024, at the Fox Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman.

A visitation will be from 11 to 11:50 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2024, at St. Patrick Church, 1420 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown, where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon, celebrated by the Very Rev. Thomas Kraszewski.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman.
