Jo-Ann Rocci 1944-2024

YOUNGSTOWN — Jo-Ann Rocci, 79, passed away Monday, March 4, 2024, with her children and grandchildren honorably by her side, after a valiant struggle with heart and kidney disease.

She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Anthony J. Rocci, to whom she was married for 54 years.

Fondly known as the family matriarch, Jo-Ann truly was one of a kind. She graduated from East High School and her fearless approach has been constant throughout her life. To be in her presence was to feel both her absolute strength and kind heart.

Jo-Ann’s personality and devotion to her loved ones were her biggest attributes. She could size anyone up in a few seconds and you always knew where you stood with her. Her bold honesty, often delivered with her one-of-a-kind humor, was accepted because she truly had your best interests at heart.

Jo-Ann’s dedication both to her family and her extended family is truly her legacy. Known as a “champion of children,” she was active in the daily lives of her children and grandchildren, with her effortless giving of time and advice. All children, family or not, had a special place in her heart.

She showed, by great example, how to mother and how to love. Jo-Ann’s powerful delivery with her words comforted others in times of need. If you were lucky enough to be loved by Jo-Ann, you felt it every time you saw her. And in return, you shared that dedication to her, with joy.

She is survived by her three children, Melissa Rocci (Carl Bauer), Anthony T. Rocci and Kelly Bucci (Dan Bucci); five grandchildren, Kayley, Selena, Ava, Benjamin and Alyvia; and great-grandson, Jionni; her brother, Tod (Beth) Cotter; and sisters, Irene (John) Hollobaugh, Peggy (Cliff) Finney, Judy (Jack) Cartmil and Nancy (Rick) Grissom.

She will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives she touched.

Visitation will be held 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, where a funeral service will follow at noon.

Donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, st.jude.org.
