Jenna M. Sefcik 1987-2024

POLAND — Jenna Marie Sefcik, 36, passed away peacefully Friday, March 1, 2024, at The Cleveland Clinic, with her parents and special family friend, Patricia Magazzine, by her side.

Born June 28, 1987, in Youngstown, Jenna was the daughter of Thomas and Linda Kalcic Sefcik. Jenna was blind from birth and received a kidney transplant nearly four years ago. Although faced with these challenges, Jenna flourished through life by maintaining a positive attitude, being ambitious, and her willingness to try new things.

She was a 2006 graduate of Poland Seminary High School and enjoyed singing in the choir and participating on the Bulldogs track team. A fast learner, Jenna was fluent in reading and writing braille. In recent years, advancements in technology opened up Jenna’s world. She was enthralled with her Echo Dot, speaking to Alexa and her new eReader.

After graduation, Jenna attended the day programs at the Purple Cat and Golden String Radio. From a young age, Jenna developed a deep love for music and enjoyed singing and writing music and poetry. Jenna loved her time in the music studio at Golden String Radio and was a singer in its Feral Cats Band. The band played various cover music and also an original song of Jenna’s, “Hey, Hey, Hey.”

When not in the studio, Jenna could be found talking on the phone for hours with friends, cheering for the Cleveland sports teams with her mom, and listening to Christian music and Taylor Swift, as she was an adoring “Swiftie.”

Strong in her faith, Jenna was a member of Holy Family Church in Poland, where she was baptized, received her First Communion, and attended CCD classes. Praying often for herself and others, Jenna was a regular listener and caller on the Christian-based K-Love radio station and requested they pray for her.

Jenna was a ray of sunshine to so many and her happy disposition will be lovingly remembered and missed.

Jenna leaves to carry on her memory, her parents, Thomas and Linda Sefcik of Poland; brother, Stephen Sefcik of Poland; uncles, Michael “Jimmy” Kalcic, Daniel Sefcik and Leonard Sefcik; and many special cousins, including Tara Horvath, with whom she had a very close bond.

Jenna was preceded in death by her older brother, Thomas M. Sefcik.

A Mass of Christian Burial and celebration of life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Holy Family Church, 2729 Center Road, Poland. Interment will follow in Poland Riverside Cemetery.

Jenna’s family would like to express their appreciation and thank The Cleveland Clinic Kidney Team for their wonderful care and compassion through the years.
