Dorina Canacci 1932-2024

STRUTHERS — Dorina Canacci, 91, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Maplecrest Nursing Home.

Dorina was born June 18, 1932, in Pescara, Italy, the daughter of Nemo Canacci and Tina Antonioli. She came from Italy in 1974 and became a United States citizen on March 13, 1981.

She worked for Father Joseph Iati as a cook for two years and Monsignor Michael Cariglio Jr. for eight years. She also worked as a seamstress for Cappelli Tailors and Lord Chesterfields. Furthermore, she was a babysitter for Eddie DeBartolo Jr.

She was a member of the Mother of the Crucifix and the senior citizens group at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Basilica.

Dorina leaves her cherished family members and caregivers, Anita and Nickie Marsco.

Dorina was preceded in death by her parents; her two brothers, Antonio and Elvano Canacci; and her best friend, Graziella Giannini.

Calling hours will be held 9 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mount Carmel Ave., Youngstown, followed by Mass at the basilica at 10 a.m.

Her family would like to thank Maplecrest Nursing Home for their outstanding care, as well as Matt Giannini, who was like a son to her, and Eddie DeBartolo Jr.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, which held a special place in Dorina’s heart.
