Carmella ‘Dolly’ Crump 1933-2024

Together again

SALEM — Carmella “Dolly” Crump, 90, passed away peacefully, Monday, March 4, 2024, at 8:48 p.m., with friends and family by her side.

Dolly was a brilliant, strong, and loving woman who was not afraid to stand her ground for herself or her family. She loved her family and always held friends close as well.

Dolly was born Dec. 23, 1933, in Youngstown, the daughter of Frank and Virginia Morella Valenzisi, and was a lifelong area resident.

On July 17, 1963, Dolly married David F. Crump and celebrated nearly 55 years of marriage.

Dolly was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and went on to work as a sales rep for Stanley Home Products, receiving many awards and accolades. Later, she opened Crump’s Auto Service with her husband, Dave, and son, Thomas, while also owning and operating Dolly’s Concessions, where she loved working with and meeting new people.

Outside of work, Dolly was very involved in the community. In 2013, she was honored as “Woman of the Year” at the Youngstown Italian Festival and served on their committee. Proud of her Italian heritage, she also organized and ran the Little King & Queen Pageant at the Mount Carmel Italian Festival in Youngstown until 2018.

Dolly was a brilliant businesswoman, great mother, loyal friend and would help anyone in need. She had a loving heart and soul and lived for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dolly will be truly missed.

Dolly was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica and a member of Calvary United Methodist Church upon marrying her ultimate love, David Crump.

Dolly and Dave had a special relationship that lasted almost 55 years. In that time, they loved their family, which was most important to them. They taught us how to love, care and treat people the way they wanted to be treated. If you work hard, nothing is out of reach.

Dolly leaves behind to hold onto her precious memories throughout her life, three children, Tom (Lisa Pomaro) Crump of Boardman, Frank (Sandra) Crump of Las Vegas and Davine (Jeff) Sickle of Salem; five grandchildren, Stacie Danus, Phillip, Jeffrey (Brianna), Geraldyne (Dylan) and Emily; great-grandchildren, Trenton, Carmella Marie, Dean, Chloe, Nolan and Violet; sister, Claire Patoray of Youngstown; and brother, Frank Valenzisi of Boardman.

Besides her parents, Dolly was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dave; and son, Bobby.

Family and friends may visit and pay tribute to Dolly 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman.

A funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 1 p.m., with Patro Renee Meggitt officiating.

Burial and right of committal will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in North Lima.
