Zita Ahmer Bogdan 1934-2024

YOUNGSTOWN — Zita Ahmer Bogdan, 89, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024, at Continuing Health Care Center, after a long illness.

Zita was born March 2, 1934, in Charleston, W.Va., a daughter of Thomas J. and Mary P. Ball Ahmer.

She had resided in Youngstown since 1952 and was a 1952 graduate of Austintown-Fitch High School. She went on to work for many local businesses over the years as an accountant.

Zita will always be remembered as a loving person who loved to help others. She enjoyed baking and cooking for everyone she knew; she also enjoyed playing cards with her grandchildren and watching “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy.” Above all, she loved her family and spending the holidays together. She also loved her dogs and enjoyed life.

Zita is survived by her three daughters, Joanmarie “Jo” Hiles, Theresa (Joseph) Collins and Kathryn “Kitty” (Robert) Kassan. She also leaves her four grandchildren, Matthew (Kyleigh) Hiles, Rachel Hiles, Joseph (Loice) Collins and Jessica (Lawrence) Hawkins; and her six great-grandchildren, Christian, Shawn and Alyssa Hiles, Kaitlin Lewis, Larry and Maya Hawkins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stephen Bogdan; her five brothers, Cyril, Joseph, Charles, John and Thomas Ahmer; and her son-in-law, Wayne Hiles.

The Bogdan family has entrusted Zita’s care to the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell. Family and friends may call 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024, at Apostolic Pentecostal Church, 3101 Deforest Road, Warren. Funeral Services will immediately follow at noon at the church, with Pastor Douglas Brown officiating.
